Oh Texas, My Texas

Flower petals surround me

As I lay in a field of bluebonnets

Naming clouds shaped like

Animals running across the sky

Sweet aromas wash over me

With every gentle breeze

I close my eyes and inhale deeply

Committing the scent to memory

The sky is clear and the sun is hot

Perfect for laying in the grass

As I straddle the line between

Tanning to bronze and burning to red

Home of the Texans, Astros, and Rockets

With a pledge of allegiance to itself

There’s no place I’d rather be

Than Texas, my sweet Texas
